A note on browsers
This tool uses your browser's own decoder to read the WebM audio, and it works best in Chrome and Firefox, which decode every WebM variant. Safari and a few others can't decode some WebM audio at all. There's no guessing involved: if your browser can't read a file, the card says so plainly instead of producing a silent MP3, and opening this page in Chrome or Firefox fixes it.

Does it work in Safari?
Sometimes. Safari's WebM audio support is patchy, so some files will be declined with a clear message. Chrome and Firefox handle everything; use one of those if a file is refused.
What quality should I pick?
The default is 192 kbps, the highest here, so you never have to wonder whether you gave up quality. For speech recordings, 128 sounds identical and 96 makes the smallest files.
Is my recording uploaded?
Never. Your file is never uploaded, stored, or heard by anyone. The extraction happens instantly and privately on your own hardware, which is exactly why a 1 GB recording doesn't need to crawl through an upload bar first.
