You downloaded a picture and got a .avif file that nothing on your computer will open. This page will convert AVIF to JPG free: drop the files anywhere and each converts instantly to a high-quality JPG that opens everywhere, while your images stay completely private. No upload, no file cap, no signup.
What is an AVIF file?
AVIF is an image format built from the AV1 video codec. It's roughly half the size of a JPG at the same quality, which is why Unsplash, Pexels and image CDNs now serve it by default. Browsers open it fine; older apps, Office documents, printers and upload forms mostly don't. Hence this page.
FAQ
Quality loss?
One high-quality re-encode. Photos: invisible. JPG has no transparency, so transparent areas turn white.
Why do some AVIFs look flat or dark after converting elsewhere?
Those are 10-bit HDR AVIFs; naive converters clip them. We tone-map them properly, so colors come out right. If it still looks washed out, run it through the un-HDR fixer.
Uploaded anywhere?
Never. Your images are never uploaded, stored, or seen by anyone. Skeptical? Here's how to check.
