WhatsApp photos,
re-dated.

WhatsApp strips EXIF from every photo, so your exported chat media sorts as one giant undated pile. But look at the filenames: IMG-20230514-WA0012.jpg. The date's right there. We parse it and write real EXIF dates back into your photos, locally.

To fix WhatsApp photo dates free: drop your exported chat media anywhere on this page. Your browser parses the date out of each filename, writes it into the JPG's EXIF, and sets correct file timestamps on everything else. No upload, no file cap, and Telegram names work too.

Where your dates went

WhatsApp deliberately strips metadata from shared photos (good for privacy, brutal for archives). When you export a chat or back up the WhatsApp Images folder, the only surviving date is encoded in each filename. This tool decodes WhatsApp's IMG-YYYYMMDD-WA#### scheme and Telegram's photo_YYYY-MM-DD_HH-MM-SS scheme, writes proper EXIF dates into the JPGs, and sets correct file timestamps on everything, so photo apps finally sort your memories where they belong.

FAQ

What exact time gets used?

WhatsApp names carry only the day, so photos are stamped noon of that day: right spot on the timeline, honest about precision. Telegram names carry full time.

Videos and voice notes?

They get corrected file timestamps in the output zip (EXIF is a photo thing). Voice notes can then go through voice notes to MP3.

Is my chat media uploaded?

Never. Parsing and EXIF writing run entirely in your browser. Chat media is exactly the content that shouldn't leave your device.
